Kusadasi: Ancient Ephesus Tour - 7 hours

An English speaking lecturer/guide will meet the guests at the exit of the cruise pier in KUSADASI.

After a short drive to Ephesus, the guests experience their private tour of this fascinating historical site. First, a visit will be made to the remarkable Greco-Roman archeological city of Ancient Ephesus, that flourished as a prominent cultural city and seaport between 600 BC and 500 AD.

The walking tour will begin along the Royal Road also known as the Arcadian Way, the 4th century white marble chariot thoroughfare whose most striking sight today is the two-story Library of Celsus. Uniquely beautiful, the Library once housed 12,000 scrolls of papyrus manuscripts making it the second largest library in the ancient world after the one in Alexandria, Egypt. The walk along the Royal Road also takes the visitors past the remains of some of the ancient city’s major civic buildings and temples as you move toward the Ephesus Theater from which St. Paul once preached to the Pagan Ephesians. The theater, seating 25,000 has exceptional acoustics and is still in use today for concerts and theatrical performances in summertime.

Then move to see the ongoing excavations of the Greco-Roman places-the “Elite Yamac Homes of Antiquity” (Terrace Houses) with their magnificent mosaics and frescoes.

From here, the guests will proceed to the small, but distinguished and rightly famous Ephesus Museum with unique examples of the very best Greco-Roman sculpture in the world, and with an exciting new display of Medical instruments from that era.

Finally, drive up the mountainside to visit to the so-called House of the Virgin Mary, a lovely chapel set in the hills behind Ephesus, said by some to be the last home of the Virgin Mary, where St. Paul took her for her safety away from the Pagan Ephesians.

At the end of the tour, you will be transferred to your hotel or to your cruise ship.

Kusadasi: Priene Day Tour - 7 hours

The guests will be met by a lecturer/guide at the exit of the pier in KUSADASI and drive south to visit Priene.

This ancient city is not especially large, but has an unusual intimacy and charm, in part because so many historical private houses have survived to this day. All the monuments you will see, date from the Hellenistic period, and all of them are aligned according to a strict grid-plan of the kind developed by Hippodamos, a native of neighboring Miletus. The monuments include the Temple of Zeus, a council chamber, and a small amphi-theatre. Yet Priene’s greatest treasure is its Temple of Athena, which was considered the masterpiece of the architect Pytheos who also designed the Mausoleum at Halicarnassos (Bodrum) known to be one of the Seven Wonders of the World.

After exploring Priene, the guests will cross the broad flood-plain of the river Maeander to continue to Miletus. This was once a major port but silt carried down by the River Meander blocked its harbor centuries ago. The ancient harbor is now several miles from the sea. The town is laid out according to a grid-plan designed by Hippodamos, which centers on three spacious agoras (marketplaces) today. The most striking features of the site today are the Baths of Faustina and the massive Roman Theatre.

A paved Sacred Way leads from Miletus to Dydima, not a classic town but rather a sacred precinct centering on a colossal Temple of Apollo surrounded by a double colonnade of no less than 108 huge columns. Work on the temple continued for 500 years, but its design was so ambitious that, when work was abandoned in the 4th C. AD, it was still unfinished. Even unfinished and in ruins, the temple at Dydima remains to be one of the most awe-inspiring antique monuments to be found anywhere around the Eastern Mediterranean.

At the end of the tour, the guests will be escorted back to their hotel or to the pier in KUSADASI.

Added Value:

*The tour covers the main highlights of Priene, Miletus and Didyma

The town itself houses about hundreds of old local Greek homes which have been superbly renovated and opened to the public.. The town also houses an authentic local market where different agricultural products are sold.

Following lunch (at your own cost) at the celebrated local Bizim Ev (meaning “Our House”) Restaurant in Sirince, you will stop by the famous wine cellar of this village, to be welcomed by the owner, and will taste his white or red wines, produced in the same style as in the old days from grapes at the vast vineyards of the Aegean Region.

Kusadasi Port - Three Ancient Cities; Didyma, Miletus & Priene (Full Day Tour)
SHORE EXCURSIONS
KUSADASI
THREE ANCIENT CITIES

Arrive in Kusadasi, you will meet your professional guide at the port and drive to three ancient cities.

Your first stop will be Priene. The ancient harbor city of Priene probably changed its location when the silt of the Meander River threatened to bury it. Now it is nearly 16 km away from the sea. The original place of the city has never been found but it was probably a peninsula with two harbors. Priene was laid out on a Hippodamian system of grid plan at the foot of a spectacular cliff on mount Mycale and contained many famous examples of Hellenistic art and architecture. All the streets intersect at the right angles.

Next, visit Miletus an ancient city located near the present Akkoy at the mouth of the Buyuk Menderes (Meander) River, owed its importance to its position on trade routes. It was one of the largest cities in Anatolia with a population of between 80,000 and 100,000. Highly prosperous, it founded many colonies and was the home of the 6C BC philosophers Anaximander, Anaximenes, and Thales, the town planner Hippodamus and architect Isidorus. Miletus seems to have produced geniuses the way Aphrodisias produced sculptors.

Lunch suggested at local restaurant.

Last, you will visit Didyma. The word Didyma meant "twins" and was associated by some as being the meeting place of Zeus and Leto to have their twins Apollo and Artemis. Didyma was famed as a prophecy center dedicated to Apollo which served a similar purpose as the Delphi of Anatolia. It was not a city but a sanctuary linked to Miletus by Milesians with a 19 km/12 m sacred road. However, this road may not have been constructed until the end of the 1C AD. In addition to pilgrimages made by sea, some festivals of drama, music and sports were held there every four years.

Your driver will meet you at the port and bring you into Rome where your expert guide will meet you. Begin your tour on Capitoline Hill and visit one of the oldest museum complexes in the world; the Capitoline Museums, originally founded by Pope Sixtus IV in 1471. Dining

Chartreuse
Experience this distinct specialty restaurant featuring classic French fare with a modern twist. Savor new flavors to Chartreuse like frog legs in a garlic cream sauce with rutabaga or bite into the tender veal rack of loin with caramelized endive, grape chutney and the earthy tones of a walnut veal jus sauce. Chartreuse evokes memories of a chic Parisian fine-dining restaurant discovered during an evening stroll along the Seine or just off the Champs-Élysées.
Prime 7
Handsomely decorated with inspired uses of glass, metal, and marble, Prime 7 personifies luxury at every turn. An intimate and elegant steakhouse exudes glamour and elevates the classic American fare to new heights. The mouthwatering prime New York strip, porterhouse, and succulent filet mignon are always aged perfectly and cooked to your preference while some new dishes re-imagine the ocean’s offerings with sophistication and panache.
La Veranda
Start your day enjoying a sumptuous breakfast while taking in the gorgeous ocean views available from the quiet alcoves jutting out over the ocean and savor the enhanced lunch buffets in the chic indoor dining room or al fresco, on the shaded, open-air deck. Breakfasts include made-to-order omelets and other specialties while La Veranda’s lunches feature a variety of delectable selections to choose from, including hot carving stations.
Compass Rose
At the heart of Seven Seas Splendor™ is Compass Rose, the largest specialty restaurant on board. This sophisticated venue, with its exquisite chandeliers and bold Versace dinnerware, offers a multitude of choices and the ability to customize your meal. Savor enhanced flavors like the Chateaubriand Beef Tenderloin with a delicious red wine grain mustard sauce or try an entirely new dish like the Malaysian-style braised beef short rib with a flavorful curry sauce and Jasmine rice.
Pool Grill
Dining al fresco at the Pool Grill offers all the best views, whether enjoying lunch or a casual dinner. An on-deck dining experience pairs perfectly with a panoramic view of the surrounding landscapes, wherever you’re traveling to. Indulge in delicious regional barbecues or the freshly grilled fish of the day and treat yourself to the perfect milkshake and old-fashioned hand-dipped ice cream desserts.
Coffee Connection
Sitting and chatting with newfound friends over barista-made coffee has long been a favorite pastime for the guests. Aboard Seven Seas Splendor everyone can now do so in an expanded outdoor section. A chic metropolitan cafe with an elegant interior of muted pastels and crisp whites now seamlessly transitions to trendy al fresco seating, where everyone can sit and chat with clear views of the shimmering sea.

Bars & Lounges

Observation Lounge
A fleet abounds with spectacular suites, restaurants, and lounges, but the Observation Lounge on Seven Seas Splendor is truly magical. It offers staggering views as the ship enters and leaves ports of call, but its interior is lush with upholsteries inspired by the fluidity of flower petals, giving it the feel of a sunlit English garden. At night, a whimsical chandelier and hand-painted glass screens work in tandem with a cocktail pianist to perfect the scene.
Splendor Lounge
A magical place to laugh and unwind. Enjoy signature cocktails in a space designed to arouse the senses, from soulful sounds floating on ocean breezes to plush chairs cradling you in comfort to a lounge so spectacularly designed it will dazzle from every angle. What better way to prepare for a delicious dinner than chatting with fellow guests while musicians perform on an intimate stage beneath a grand proscenium?
Pool Bar
When you envision the type of activity you’re only likely to do while on vacation, sipping a frozen drink at a pool bar onboard a glorious cruise ship is probably near the top of the list. You can tick that box at the Pool Bar, where you and new friends can enjoy leisurely conversation over cocktails and frozen drinks in a delightfully relaxed atmosphere.

Entertainment & Nightlife

Constellation Theater
Plush seating and pleasing sightlines make every seat a great seat in the state-of-the-art show hall. Stretching two decks, the Constellation Theater boasts lavishly staged, high-energy shows created and produced by the own team of Broadway choreographers and directors. Sit in comfort or get up and dance to stories brimming with romance, intrigue, singalongs – even a tear-jerking tribute to the days of disco.

Casino

Casino
Inspired by the iconic gaming halls of Las Vegas and Monte Carlo, the Casino is an elegant and exciting destination unto itself.

Onboard Activities

Bocce Court
The originators of bocce ball 7,000 years ago couldn’t have imagined their simple game being played high atop a glorious ocean liner, but you’ll be able to do more than imagine while playing it onboard Seven Seas Splendor. Bocce ball – also known as Italian lawn bowling – is played with a pallina and 8 larger balls, all of course provided.
Card Room
The beautifully decorated space is an inviting and tranquil oasis for friendly competition. Gather your favorite teammates for a lively afternoon or evening of board games, enjoy a social game of Bridge or participate in an ACBL Tournament on select voyages.
Culinary Arts Kitchen
No ordinary shipboard cooking class, the Culinary Arts Kitchen will make you believe you’ve stumbled into one of the world’s prestigious cooking schools. An impressive 18 individual cooking stations sit atop three long, curved rows with white quartzite countertops and stainless steel accents, a formidable array you’ll put to good use preparing a variety of exquisite dishes that will amaze friends and family back home.
Destination Services
Whether it’s a tour from a free Unlimited Shore Excursion menu or a unique, small-group Regent Choice Shore Excursion, Destination Services on is the place for you to arrange onshore activities. Helpful office staff can also assist with tailor-made pre-and post-cruise programs, from a simple stay in a luxurious hotel to a 3-night extension that includes private tours of coveted destinations.
Shuffleboard
This isn’t the sleepy version of shuffleboard. From high atop Seven Seas Splendor, you’ll be enchanted by ocean vistas stretching horizon to horizon as you engage in a game that dates back to 15th-century England. All equipment is well-maintained and available for use – all you have to do is bring a team, or perhaps join one in need of a player.
The Study
In an atmosphere that’s reminiscent of a personal library in an elegant, stately home, Regent Suite guests may gather in The Study to privately dine on meals from the adjacent Chartreuse and Prime 7 restaurants. Such an exclusive opportunity further establishes the Regent Suite on Seven Seas Splendor as the pre-eminent luxury accommodation on the high seas.
Business Center
If you prefer to travel without a laptop, a staffed Business Center offers desktop computers that allow you to access your emails and browse the Internet. Printer access is available for a nominal fee. Seven Seas Splendor provides WiFi access throughout the ship, allowing you to connect to the Internet with whatever device you’ve brought on board.
Reception
Have your every wish, whim and want to be fulfilled at the welcoming Reception Desk. The office staff is available 24 hours a day to answer your questions - the ship's Concierge may be contacted at the Reception Desk as well. He or she is eager to provide you with general assistance and help you make the most of your voyage.

Outdoor Activities

Infinity-Edge Plunge Pool
Surrounded by an inviting teak-deck terrace filled with plush, partially covered lounge chairs, the refreshing Infinity-Edge Plunge Pool is a perfect place to soak and take in dramatic views, as the pool contours to the stern of the ship.
Paddle Tennis Court
One look at the Paddle Tennis Court and you’ll know it’s a place of serious competition. All the equipment you need is nearby, the court is completely screened and the surface is immaculate. Whether you find yourself in a tense match or something more leisurely, you and your fellow players will be enjoying the fresh ocean air and fantastic views from high atop your ship.
Pool Deck
If it’s a day by the pool you desire, the Pool Deck is one of the most elegant at sea. Outfitted in teak accents, it features a lavish pool and two whirlpools in a blissful setting. Lounge the day away under the warm sun or read a book in a shady nook with an amiable and dedicated crew on-hand to bring refreshing beverages and plush towels.
Putting Green
While the Golf Net is meant to help you improve your fairway swing, the Putting Greens are less about self-improvement than group fun as the ship travels from one destination to another. A popular pastime is gathering friends after an afternoon cocktail and heading to the top deck of Seven Seas Splendor for a spirited competition as twilight approaches and a delicious dinner in one of the stellar restaurants looms.
Sports Deck
You may visit the Sports Deck after a relaxing visit to Serene Spa & Wellness to jog a few laps around the track or practice your fairway golf swing. Then again, you could head up to Deck 12 after an afternoon cocktail to take on new friends in games of bocce ball or paddle tennis. Whatever you do, you’ll enjoy the freshest ocean air and vistas you’ll never forget.

Wellness

Jogging Track
Whether you prefer to start your day with a brisk jog or wait until later and get in an afternoon walk, the Track is a popular destination for those who’ve developed active lifestyles back on dry land. Onboard Seven Seas Splendor, it’s an outstanding place to get your heart pumping while enjoying unforgettable ocean vistas.
Serene Spa & Wellness
Serene Spa & Wellness is a globally inspired, tranquil haven of health, beauty, and wellness, offering restorative treatments and activities to soothe both the body and mind. Strengthen and elevate as you engage with a variety of treatments and services designed to enhance your whole being, from massages, and body wraps to facials, manicures and pedicures and exclusive treatments curated especially for Regent Seven Seas Cruises.
