Traveling Spoon

Dotty is Javanese who moved to the US as a child and then to Australia after she got married. She has returned to her birth country and fulfilled a life-long dream of building a bed and breakfast where she cooks traditional recipes handed down from her grandmother. Dotty is a warm, fun and friendly host who delights in sharing her culture and cuisine with travelers. Enjoy an authentic, homecooked Javanese meal in Dotty's home, located in the lush and tranquil Tumbak Bayuh, among the rice paddy fields that Bali is known for. Your Javanese meal might include dishes such as Dotty's addictively light and crispy corn fritters or another favorite, soya chicken, chicken cooked in soy sauce with traditional ingredients such as cinnamon, star anise, and rice wine. Share a delightful meal with Dotty over conversation about food and culture. If you book a cooking experience, join Dotty in her kitchen to cook a simple Javanese meal, using local ingredients and recipes handed down from her mother and grandmother. Dotty is especially gifted at teaching you about substitutes for traditional ingredients that can be hard to find at your grocery store back home. Note Tanah Lot Temple is 20 minutes away from Dotty's home and is a great side trip before or after the experience. Dotty lives about 45-60 minutes from Kuta beach.
